As far as environmental pollution is concerned, both disposable and cloth diapers can cause harm to the environment, in different ways.

 

In terms of disposal, disposables are dumped into the landfills. These are made of materials which do not biodegrade well. Cloth diapers, on the other hand, can be reused between 100 to 150 times.

 

However, since cloth diapers comes from cotton, the use of pesticides is a major pollution issue. A lot of people contend as well that wastewater from washing cloth diapers can cause environmental harm. These days though, biodegredable detergents are being used.

 

Diaper and Cost

 

Cost-wise, it tends to be less for cloth, even with all the washing. Cost estimates shows that disposable diapers will run $50-$80 a month, while cloth diapers at $25-$60 a month.
